It is based on the Unity language system where every picture symbol on the front page represents a verb, noun, adjective, and category. And that is when the explanations of the program and philosophy behind it became a nearly weekly lecture.Īccording to their website, LAMP Words for Life is a full vocabulary app for tablets. Within a few weeks, we had given her a loaner iPad with LAMP Words for Life. This is the student that I’ve dreamed of serving for the last 16 years, someone with whom I could make a huge impact almost immediately. She understood nearly everything but was severely limited in her expressive language. The problem was that she had receptive language skills within the average range. She was primarily using gestures, facial expressions, and a few ASL words to communicate her needs and wants. There are other apps with a similar concept but this is the one that my speech therapist and others on my team have recommended over and over □.When my lovely Kindergarten student began school, she had an iPad and an app with 30 words on it. Or maybe here goes the start of learning to advocate for myself and actually being able to advocate for myself for once. I will put my PayPal link at the bottom of this post. And please know that I would be forever grateful and that you would be making an honest difference in my life, whether you share or donate, or send well wishes my way. I just really want a way to have my voice back and after doing a lot of research and a lot of messaging with others, this seems like my very best option right now. And I am really, truly sorry if this post comes across as pushy or anything of the sort. I feel like my life has been nothing but asking for help from doctors and my mom and therapists and now you all. I just feel so sad and so embarrassed that I have to ask for help. ![]() Right now she just puts her hand over my pen when we are in her office on Mondays and tells me to let her speak.ĭo you guys think it would be okay to try and fundraise for it? I have a PayPal account. Plus I want to be able to interrupt Legs. ![]() So I think I am going to kind of put the idea out there of fundraising for the app so that maybe, just maybe I can have an easier and more reliable way to communicate and one that will help people actually listen to me and take me seriously. That would be like someone putting their hand over a speaking person's mouth. It has made everything harder, especially during hospital stays and at appointments because I have to write everything down on paper and people get very impatient and on a few occasions, I have even had providers/nurses take away my notebook so I could not keep writing. Unfortunately, it has been two years and I have not been able to speak. I really wanted to try for a while longer to get my words back. Cough) suggested this app about a year and a half ago but I was hesitant because 1. It is for non-speaking people and it gives them an actual voice. This would be an app on my iPad like Proloquo2Go. Obviously that is not happening and the Ohio social worker is a little more than angry.Īnother thing that several people have messaged me about over the past months/year/weeks is an AAC. The HNSW is the one who is supposed to be helping me get the medicaid waiver and also get into a group home. I told her that I only ever met her once and she never did visit again. ![]() My Ohio social worker messaged me to tell me that she has tried to contact the home nursing social worker for two weeks now and the HNSW has not returned her calls. Now she decided to put that responsibility on my mom OF ALL PEOPLE. This social worker promised me she would help me find a new therapist but told me she wanted me to keep seeing Legs until she found someone. Because, you guessed it, I still have Legs as a therapist because of the psychiatry issue. She asked how I am doing and then, in all of her glory, asked if my mom can help me find a new therapist. I have not seen her since her first visit 3 weeks ago. My state social worker was called in because of the abuse allegations against my mom (when I had the black eye, etc). My state social worker and my Ohio social worker both messaged me.
